6666 NRHA Derby Wraps the OG&E Coliseum Action in Style with the Non Pro Maturity

The 2025 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel wrapped up on Sunday, June 22, with action in both the Adequan® Arena and the OG&E Coliseum. This time around, the Non Pro division took to the arena dirt for the first time, trying their hand at running a pattern in the new arena.

NRHA 8 & Up Non Pro Maturity Levels 4-2, Intermediate Non Pro Slate 2 Champions: Elena Hurd and Magnum Style

2013MG (Magnum Chic Dream x Easy Whiz My Money)Owner: Mark Hurd, Wilmington, Delaware
Score: 217.5Breeder: Kathy Hinton, Whitesboro, TX

Aboard her “heart horse,” Elena Hurd swept the top levels of the 8 & Up Non Pro Maturity on the final day of the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel. Hurd, who grew up on the East Coast, found her way to reining in high school.

“I started reining my sophomore year of high school, so 2014,” she said. “I got into like the green reiner, the youth, and then when I went to college at TCU [Texas Christian University]. I moved to Texas and started riding with Josh [Tishman] and just have absolutely fallen in love with it since.”

She and Magnum Style, sired by NRHA Hall of Fame inductee Magnum Chic Dream, have partnered for eight years.

“I’ve had this horse since he was the end of his 4-year-old year, and he’s 12—he’s been perfect the entire time,” Hurd said. “We have our ups and downs, but he always gives me his all, and I really couldn’t ask for more in a horse.”

Their first competition in the OG&E Coliseum, the pair marked a 217.5 to claim the three titles. Until Saturday night, Hurd said the horse only had light work, so he was slightly fresh.

“He’s a pretty chill horse, so we just lope around and then last night I  ran him in here, stopped him,” Hurd said. “Today he came in and he was pretty honest. It was a good day.  I really like the arena. The shape is perfect. I love just the look of it all. It’s been really fun.”

Hurd has more than $72,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings and adds more than $4,500 from today’s wins.

“This horse is especially my heart horse,” she said of Magnum Style. “I’ll keep him until he’s no longer here. In reining, it’s the people [that keep me involved]. The Tishmans, especially, have become family. I really couldn’t ask for a better community around us. And the excitement of just going in the show pen and never knowing how it’s going to turn out, even if you know you have the horse there, you just wait to see, you know, is it your day or not?”

8 & Up Non Pro Maturity Level 1 Champions: Donna Duvall and Xtra Beetle Juice

2017G (Tinker With Guns x Bella Juice)Owner: Donna Duvall, Cedar Hill, TX
Score: 209.5Breeder: Silver Spurs Equine, Purcell, OK

“I’ve had him for almost five years now, and started out a little rough, but we came together last year and won three saddles in the Southwest Reining Horse Association, and he’s just been showing up for me,” said Duvall. “He’s 8 years old and still an incredible show horse. I just bought a 4-year-old, so I kind of want to step up in the derby stuff. I just love showing this horse—he’s been fun, he’s very quirky, but even after I’ve shown him so much, he’s still so honest in the show pen, and I love that.”

NRHA Non Pro Slate Two Champions: Michelle Fumagalli and Peptos Big Stop

2021G (Late Night Stopper x Peptos Lil Melody)Owner: Smoking Roosters PH LLC, Gause, TX
Score: 144.5Breeder: Marc Gordon, Scottsdale, AZ

“I showed him last year at the [NRHA] Futurity and we did really well,” recalled Fumagalli. “I showed him here at the Derby, and it went well, but it didn’t go exactly how we wanted — I knew we could both do better, so we were both really excited to have a nice run today. He’s just really sweet and tries really hard. He’s just a good boy.

“I want to make sure he’s happy and healthy and keep him moving forward. He’s really, really sweet, he’s really good and he’s got huge maneuvers. So he’s just a fun horse to ride. It’s fun to learn all his little buttons.”

NRHA Prime Time and Masters Non Pro Slate 2 Champions: Anita Horn and Cowboys Ride Away

2019G (Smart And Shiney x Awhiz Called Wanda)Owner: Anita Horn, Moore, OK
Score: 214Breeder: James Morgan, DVM, Pilot Point, TX

“I have not shown very long; this is something that I decided to do when I retired,” Horn said. “I’ve had him about a year and a half now, and we’re still getting acquainted, but we’re making progress, and I just love him. It’s a latent life passion, and all the kids in the barn take really good care of ‘granny.’ I have a good time just learning to ride a reiner. It would elevate any rider having the knowledge to ride a horse like that; he fits me. He’s strong and he’s a little quirky, and we just work through the quirks because everybody has quirks. I’ve had him about a year and a half now, and we’re still getting acquainted, but we’re making progress, and I just love him. He’s powerful and he’s is just right there for me. It went really, really well. He did everything that he was supposed to do. I tried to do everything I was supposed to do.”

Legends Non Pro Slate 2 Champions: Pamela Williams and Always A Magnum

2017G (Magnum Chic Dream x Always A Dunit)Owner: Pamela Williams, Ocala, FL
Score: 206.5Breeder: Petska Trinity Equine LLC, Collinsville, TX

“He’s a horse that I got from Nathan Piper,” said Williams. “He paired me up with this horse two years ago, and he has been the most perfect match I have ever had in my entire life — and that’s saying a lot because I’m 72. He just has a great mind, and he takes really good care of me. He gets a lot of carrots and gets pampered a lot. We’re going to do the 8 & and Up Derbies and hopefully, I think the 100X, as they raised it to eight [year old horses].”

Non Pro and Non Pro Prime Time High Point Champions: Kathleen Armenta and Off N Running

2015G (Walla Walla Whiz x Spook Off Sparks)Owner: Armenta Quarter Horses, Gainesville, TX
Breeder: Arcese Quarter Horses USA, Weatherford, TX

Intermediate Non Pro High Point Champions: Victoria Crettenand and Magnetizm

2017G (Magnum Chic Dream x Calatrava)Owner: Victoria Crettenand, Whitesboro, TX
 Breeder: Gail Klapper, Lakewood, CO

“Magnetizm is an 8-year-old gelding, and I bought him when he was 5. I’ve had him at home and have been training on him myself,” said Crettenand. “[Today,] the circles were really good, he stayed really with me, the spins were decent and the stops, that is something we have to work on, but overall it was really good. I’ve shown reining three years now. I love the new arena; it gives you so much space to go as fast as you want. We’ve been doing a lot of shows and its been a good year. We are next going to the 100X in Waco to show.”

Masters Non Pro Masters High Point Champions: Cady Shaw and Dreaming Whiz Me

2021M (Electric Snow x Dream Whiz Me)Owner: Cady Shaw, Washington, OK
 Breeder: Cady Shaw, Washington, OK

“I was laid up a lot last year, and then I broke my leg, so we are still kind of figuring each other out again,” remarked Shaw. “It has been a little scary, but fortunately, we’ve got some goals to set and work on and that’s all I can ask for.”

Legends Non Pro High Point: Helen Bearden and Lil Spook N Bueno

2018G (Wimpys Little Step x Bueno Spook)Owner: Helen and Barry Bearden, Plano, TX
